Jeff

I am a retired guy that grew up in Charlotte, NC and really started cycling in 2024 because of my arthritic knees. My initial goal was to ride to help me hike and help me walk without so much discomfort. A "high speed, low drag" approach, so to speak. The difference in how I feel has been remarkable! I love to learn and encourage what others are doing and do not feel obligated to meet anyone else's judgment as I share my own journey.

It was a walk in the park with Annie

My daughter, Annie, had the day off and joined Brenda and me for a walk in the park. The humidity finally broke this morning, giving us a perfect little window to get outside and enjoy it together.

After Dinner Ride

The humidity finally broke after a hot day, so I slipped out for a short after‑dinner ride. Nothing long, just enough to breathe a little easier and reconnect with the trees, the path, and the quieter side of the evening. A few miles of calm air and nature doing its…

Shade and Singletrack at Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park

Almost seven miles at Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park today. The ride was mostly singletrack, not my usual go‑to, but the shade was worth chasing. With the heat settling in, the cool cover of the trees made the twists, roots, and narrow lines feel like the right call. A quiet…

Good Morning Ruby Sunshine

An early start to beat the heat, and the day opened up under cloudy skies. I rolled over to Ruby Sunshine for a quick stop and stayed just long enough to enjoy a small bowl of peaches‑and‑cream beignets. The service was quicker than my riding, so I was back on…

A Quiet Loop Through the Usual Paths

Just a familiar 12‑mile loop close to home on a beautiful late afternoon — a mix of greenway, gravel, side streets, and a peppering of bike lane that eventually opened into peaceful neighborhood roads and shaded stretches of wooded trail. Nothing dramatic, just the kind of ride that settles you…

Another Great Ride Fueled by Another Perfect Taco

Circling from Sugar Creek Greenway to Pearl Street Park, down East Blvd and through South End, then finishing with a quiet roll through Marion Diehl Park... all fueled by another perfect taco. I’m now 202 miles (385 km) in on the new saddle, and it just keeps getting better.

Boardwalk to Fort Mill, SC

This ride turned into a bit of an unexpected adventure. Construction popped up where I didn’t expect it, a few country roads felt tighter than planned, and I managed a couple of wrong turns for good measure. Then I found out the beautiful nature trails on my route were members‑only,…

A Marathon Among the Creeks

JSutay and I rolled out from the Sugar Creek Lynx Station for a ride that quietly turned into a marathon — 26.2 miles stitched together by three greenways on the north side of the city. Toby Creek Greenway, Mallard Creek Greenway and Clarks Creek Greenway. There’s something about these greenways…
