Rona 🐶 + John 🤦🏼‍♂️

Returning to beloved Shetland 1-15 June 2026 for a special holiday coinciding with my milestone birthday, exactly *50* years since my first visit (1976)!

8yo mud-loving Cockerpoo diva (and her mobility-impaired 65+ dog dad) who are living their best lives in the New Forest, on Cranborne Chase and the Isle of Purbeck ... please use the link to see video clips of our walks on Rona’s Instagram.

Although I’m unable to walk far perhaps our routes will inspire you to plan your own walk in the general location featured and routes that we take?

If you’re planning to visit our area and would like any location advice or to meet up, do get in touch!

Banna Minn (GPS fail)

If you drive to the south end of West Burra at Papil, you'll come to Minn beach, which lies on the west side of a spectacular tombolo. A footpath from the car park leads down to the beach and on to Kettla Ness, a wild headland with seals. In season…

Scousburgh Beach

Scousburgh Sands, or Spiggie beach as it's commonly known by islanders, is a north facing beach in Shetland's South Mainland. With accessible parking close by, it's a wonderful and dog friendly, beautiful stretch of white sand flanked by cliffs and rolling, green countryside. Across the dunes to the back of…

Blagdon Down, ido Pentridge

Had intended reaching Pentridge Hill from Bokerley Dyke, but oil seed rape entirely blocking the way out paid to that. It’s toxic for dogs so needs to be given a wide berth!

Compton Chamberlayne

Quaintly named Compton Chamberlayne might be the name of a character in a PG Wodehouse story! However the reality is that it is a small, picturesque and quiet village that lies between Salisbury and Shaftesbury on Cranborne Chase.

The name gives a nod to its landscape and history: "Compton" comes…

It was a day when the sun beat down with the relentless fury of an aunt denied her morning tea.

Compton Chamberlayne, sporting her finest linen and a look of profound determination, embarked upon a linear march across gorgeous Cranborne Chase.

"Directness, old bean, is the soul of pedestrianism," she

A paddle in the Piddle at Wareham Common 💦

I had planned to stagger up to Swyre Head tomorrow to cheer on Race across Dorset runners but the forecast heat has put me off doing that! So we compromised today with a paddle in the River Piddle at Wareham Common.

We were going to do this walk again but unable to park so went to Damerham and walked in from 'the other end'. Didn't quite get to the original turnsround, but very nearly!
