Following Jack Thurston’s route from the Lost Lanes North book. Too snowy to go up Great Dunn Fell (honest!)

Glorious spring day off work. Chance to go on some forest tracks I've not been on before and cross Plenmellor common on a byway I've eyed up for years but never been on.

Our immediate area had very little snow but a short distance away was a different world.
We stuck to the gritted roads up through Allendale as far as we dare then headed back down, constantly turning our heads to take in the spectacular sunset behind us.

Surprised to find the wind blowing from the East so went this way instead. Really quite pleasant, especially for November.

Heading East from Pewsey we followed the Wiltshire cycleway, past the Crofton Beam engine (which was closed for the winter) to the lovely little village of Great Bedwyn.
Turned North and through the Savernake forest to Marlborough for a cuppa. Then back to Pewsey through the woodland called 'West Woods

Back for the complete Kielder Reiver route this week. Glad to turn South and pick up the tailwind even if it was still cold. Many new tracks even though I've explored a lot of this area before. First century of the decade and at least 70 miles on gravel. Good work Dirty Reiver 👍
