Not a bad way into (or out of Hanoi). Mainly quiet roads and farm tracks, with a bit of muddy single track. Komoot sent me down numerous dead ends (see photo 1), but it was generally a pleasant and interesting ride.
The suburbs of Viet Tri were fascinating. The ride through the rice fields after crossing

Generally quiet roads. The section along the Lo River wasn’t very scenic, but it was interesting in it's own way.

Quiet route with very little traffic. Beware the bit where Komoot sent me down a track with no exit. Note the 2 km stretch from PK 39 would probably be impassable immediately after rain.

On leaving the hotel I picked up the Ping River as soon as possible, then tried to cycle close to it all the way in to Chiang Mai. I followed quiet roads and dirt tracks until around 20 km from the city. After that the roads got busier, but it still seemed a reasonable way to end the tour.

Followed the route 108 into and out of Hot. On the way out it became a dual carriageway with quite heavy traffic, so decided to use Komoot to plan an alternative. It directed me down a couple of dead ends and may have sent me through some private property around km 56, but it was generally a great alternative

Shortly after leaving Mae Sariang on the route 108, the track follows a paved/sandy/muddy trail for 10 km, then joins the route 3010 and follows it for another 10 km before rejoining the 108.
After a further 5 km, the route again leaves the 108 to follow another rough trail for 25 km before returning
