Timeline
Coe Crag and Thrunton Woods
The definition of a hidden gem!! We saw one couple and a dog at the start and that was it. Perfect for my reactive dog. Free parking and a lovely cafe on the way back where we had cold drinks and met the very sweet ‘scruff’ the dog. Steep incline…

Black Edge, Combs Head & Corbar Hill loop (May hike)
Nice route starting from Buxton station.
Warm day but the breeze was lovely- amazing views and very quiet which was great for my reactive dog.
Ticked off another 3 Ethels ✅

Birkett Fell from The Inn at Whitewell (April hike)
Nice views but poorly marked paths meant we went wrong several times. Extremely boggy and had to climb over felled trees at one point. Large number of stiles. The route took us through a couple of farms including one with several loud sheepdogs in kennels and two tethered just off…

Eccles Pike and Combs reservoir (March hike)
Started at Chapel-en-le-frith station- nice, mostly quiet hike especially around the reservoir. Ticked off another Ethel and successfully tired out the dog :)

Lyme Park and Black Hill (Whaley Moor) (February hike)
Very boggy, quite misty so didn’t get great views. The route up to the Ethel looked steep and muddy so we decided to turn around and we might try again on a dryer day.

Stanage Edge and Higger Tor loop (January hike)
Very boggy in places, would be better to do in the summer time. Incredible views at the top and we were able to tick off 2 Ethels. Steep coming down and the recent wet weather has resulted in stream of water down several paths.

Bowden Bridge, Mount Famine, and South Head Circular
Wet and windy and sadly no views from the peaks/ethels due to low cloud. Steep in parts but a nice loop that we will definitely be repeating on a clearer day.

Grindslow Knoll from Edale
The least dog friendly hike I’ve ever done- super steep uneven incline with an almost vertical decline at the end. There was sheep everywhere (and sheep 💩) which was not ideal for my lunatic dog
