The Wandse also forms the border between Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein here.
As the original source was diverted, the Wandse is now fed exclusively by the low water of the surrounding area. Therefore, the Wandse in Höltigbaum only carries water temporarily during the year and usually dries up as early as May. Only after the confluence with the Stellmoorer Quellfluss does the Wandse turn into a constantly flowing watercourse.
