When you think of road cycling in Spain, you’ll probably think of Mallorca, Giro or Calpe. Cambrils, however—a lesser known cycling destination—has always been considered as one of the best spots for a Spanish spin, especially among those in the know.
Although Cambrils is located on the coast, the truly spectacular thing about this region is the elevation on hand in the mountains ranges a short ride outside of town. Containing some beautiful, well-known roads and passes, these routes are perfect for shorter and longer rides alike—and work well for riders of all skill and fitness levels.
And the region contains some truly breathtaking Highlights, too; the most renowned of which being the numerous roads through the Serra de Montsant, the climb up Coll de la Teixeta and the roads through the Priorat—the oldest wine-producing region in Catalonia. After visiting (especially in spring when you’ll have the roads to yourself) it’ll become startlingly clear why Cambrils is undoubtedly one of the premier cycling destinations—even if it might not be on everyone’s lips when they think of Spanish bike spots.
